With the 4th of July, I have been sidetracked from my writing. I am going to go in slightly different direction than I had intended to go last week with this article. And save my thoughts on some of the election strategy floating in my head, until my next article.

Our Independence Day causes me to think of the great men and women who were so courageous in our country's past. This year though, in light of Obama-care being upheld, my mind kept wandering back to Monty Python and mockery. We have all heard the quote, "politics is war by another means." But our "leaders" are "running away" from the battle and many will not even go to war. By this I mean, the "'Possums" refuse to engage in politics and so wage war for Christ's policies to be victorious.

The clip of "Brave Sir Robin," that I have included below, keeps popping into my mind every time another one of our "leaders" avoids being political or tells us he/she is "not making a political statement." Watch the clip, it is good for a laugh and a lot of wisdom.



After watching the clip and having a laugh, there are some startling parallels we can make to our current situation. Sir Robin along with his minstrels are a good metaphor for the Pro-Life Movement. Sir Robin is the classic example of the "Pro-Life 'Possum" and He with his minstrels exhibit many qualities of the "Pro-Life 'Possumhood."

Whenever I see a "leader" or pastor, it seems only a matter of time before there disguise of being a "brave knight of the realm" fades. Eventually, I see there is a "'Possum" where a knight should be standing and there is another strain of "Brave Sir Robin" coming from the fan club of "'Possums." The "'Possumhood" keeps singing to us, "We are winning, the Pro-Life Movement is winning," while Obama-care is kept in place so far and there is no end of child-killing in sight.

There is a terrible three-headed giant in our way and we have ready-made excuses to explain our failure. (Oh, but we fought so "bravely." We "bravely ran away.") It seems like America is filled with christians who on one side deny failure while the other side defends them telling us how brave their failure to act was. (Ok, Sir Robins minstrels were cheering him on and then mocking him for his cowardice, so it is not an exact fit to our present situation, because the minstrels seem much wiser than most pro-lifers today.)

Christians in American culture are clever at coming up with excuses. We can always find someone else to blame for our failure. The new scapegoat is "sexual immorality." It is destroying us and "we have to stop it." "Sexual immorality is the root of all are woes in America." Inventing ambiguous larger-than-life enemies or misidentifying the root of our problems and blaming any thing else is a great way to disguise our own failure. (More football, more sports, more entertainment and bring us our wings and cold beverages! Bread and circuses!)

This time the "source" is "Sexual immorality," last time it was the Devil, "This is the Devil's world," and "The world is going to continue getting worse and worse." We have all heard one reason or another for our culture going downhill to become a dunghill. Who's word should we trust? Should we build our house on pop christianity or pop theology, even if it comes from a "conservative pastor?" Or, should we build our house upon the rock? Maybe, know what Jesus Christ's teachings mean?

We have become desensitized to evil and corruption in our culture. The stench of cowardice and corruption is thick in the air. Many christians have been exposed to and educated by this culture and many of us do not have a clue how bad it really is. We are walking around like midwestern hog farmers in a thick cloud of airborne fecal matter, but we do not smell it or see that it is blinding us. How can broken instruments diagnose what our culture's illness is? The one thing that saves us is knowing Jesus Christ's teachings and loving Him enough to obey His word.

So why are we following "leaders" like Sir Robin? Why do we join the "'Possumhood?" Why are we running away? Why are we defending those who run away? Why are we following cowards? Why do we give them respect? Even the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail got that right. Sir Robin loses the respect of the other knights for the rest of the movie.

The pastors and/or "leaders" who are "'Possums" should be mocked for their cowardice, or at the very least discredited or ignored. But surely, we should steer christians and new activists clear of "'Possums." Who would follow any "'Possum Organizations" into conflict? When it comes to politics and having true policy victories, following a "'Possum Group" is like following Sir Robin into battle.

This is just the problem, our "leaders" have been taught wrong and they teach us accordingly. In other words, our "leaders" are contributing to the pollution, and adding to our confusion. We are walking around on this hog farm, knowing something is wrong, but unable to identify we need clean air to be able to see and to be healthy. We can not keep following Sir Robin around the hog farm.

Although we and our leaders have been miseducated, still we can not blame anyone else for our failure. We each have our part to do. We each, as baptized christians, have the Holy Ghost that instructs us and guides us, for starters.

Why have I said we and our leaders have been taught wrong? How many of our churches and Pro-Life groups are 501(c)(3) Tax-Exempt Organizations? That says it all. 501(c)(3) might as well just say coward or "'Possum." It is the epitome of cowardice and failure when it comes to being a Christian. Pastors, Bishops, Pro-Life "leaders" live in terror of someone thinking they have done or said something political. Just read some of their statements and look at their actions. "This isn't political it is only about religious freedom." Whatever happened to "religious obedience" to Christ? In fact calling yourself a Christian is a political title. You are pledging political allegiance to Jesus Christ the KING of Kings.

Having a 501(c)(3) Organization, or "'Possum Organization" as I call them, means skirting any issues that are political and failing Jesus Christ. Because, we must speak the truth clearly and we must do what is Just in Jesus Christ's eyes. That means implications of a "'Possum Organization" are not only losing politically on earth but spiritually as well. It might even mean losing our very own soul.

American Christians have failed to go to war spiritually on earth to confront our culture, this means more than just prayer and preaching in a pulpit, which will eventually plunge us into war physically or subjugation on earth, unless there are drastic changes made quickly in the way we think and act. Blaming others for our problems is easier than admitting our own errors. Many of our "leaders" are doing it now to cover up their failure.

However, the real root of our problem boils down to something deeper. It is us! We are the problem in America. And the essence of the problem for each of us is either a lack of love or a lack of knowledge of Jesus Christ's teachings. Sometimes we fail to act because we know what to do and do not love Jesus enough. Other times we fail to act because we love Jesus and we do not know Jesus Christ's teachings, and thus what to do.

Sexual immorality, losing policy, a corrupt culture, cowardice, deception, greed, our government making anti-christian laws, and even the Pro-Life groups avoiding politics and being "'Possum Organizations" are the symptoms of either too little love of Jesus or too little knowledge of Jesus' teachings. We can blame the government all we want; the bottom line still comes down to whether we will stand and fight or desert our duty to Jesus.

Therefore we must know and love Jesus. And how can a person obey Jesus if that person does not know Jesus' teachings? This is one reason why I am spending the time going after "'Possum Organizations" or 501(c)(3) Organizations. The Pro-Life Movement can not succeed on earth in the Pro-Life Goal if we do not know Jesus Christ's teachings. Jesus is the one who has made the laws and no man has any authority to contradict them. Man merely articulates God's laws differently to address a particular situation.

How can we win if we follow a "'Possum Organization" that can not fight? Why would anyone learn to fight from "'Possum" who has never learned to fight? Maybe, they have never even been in a real battle. Why do we follow "'Possums" like Sir Robin who flee conflict and confrontation and expect to win? How can anyone say they are winning when they do not fight, nor do they really know how to fight a culture war?

We must fight politically to win. We must know the truth, specifically Jesus Christ's teachings. We must love Jesus above all and that means obeying Him above all, even our own safety. We do not want to be like Sir Robin, but we should be like King David and Jesus. We want success and to achieve the Pro-Life Goal, and we do not want to be failures. That means we must identify those who are "Possums" like Sir Robin or heroes like Davidic men and women or like Christ. And most importantly, we must learn from them, the true warriors of Christ. We do not want to go around contradicting Jesus own methods.

We must have good teachers. Randall Terry is a great place for anyone to start. (I know, because I have looked around and to many "leaders" are just talkers.) Our culture teaches all of us to apologize for being like Christ, for being a Christian. We have been taught to live in fear by our own pastors/"pro-life leaders." Christian men and women better not say anything or do anything that offends our deranged culture. But wait!, that is not what Jesus expects of us. Jesus offended civil and religious leaders regularly and was disobedient to man's laws that contradicted God's laws (for example Matthew 23, Matthew 15:1-17, and Mark 2). So it is likely, that if anyone disagrees with Randall Terry's methods they would disagree with Jesus Christ's methods and demonstrate how backward our christian thinking is.

No matter how knightly a "'Possum" looks, no matter how spiritual a "'Possum" looks to be if they act like Sir Robin we know they are cowards. If a group is a 501(c)(3) Organization we know they are "'Possums" and it is only a matter of time before they fail. Right now, many of the "Brave Sir Robins" are filling their armor with excrement. Do not be one of them. It is imperative that we know what Jesus did and taught and then love him. Otherwise, the actual warriors of Christ or even the KING, himself, may tell you, "Robin go clean your armor!" We have, as Christians, pledged political allegiance over all others to Jesus Christ as KING. Let us act like it. We must make political war on the enemies of our KING. Let us fight and let us be like Christ.
