The "Anti-'Possum" Part 1: Put a Wilberforce in Your Garrison

Take heart my Pro-Life friend there is hope for all of us. Today, I am switching tracks to encourage you. I know, being nice is not my strong suit, right? I wanted to give you a model, to provide you with what the standard for our behavior looks like as Christians and Pro-Life Warriors fighting for Just laws. (No, I have not had an accident or hit my head hard, recently.)

I did however, recently, see for the second time Amazing Grace the movie (I have read the biography by the same name), and it tells the account of William Wilberforce, who fought the corrupt, the wicked, and the hypocrite filled English Empire and prevailed. Just read Eric Metaxas biography, then it will be vivid.

Whatever our case, we have forgotten Wilberforce still has valuable lessons to teach all of us. In his last letter, John Wesley told William Wilberforce he was "To be as Athanasius
contra mundum..." [Athanasius against the world], and as one Christian against the pagan world end slavery even in America, (and we think that we have it rough).

However, Christ does call each of us to be the “Anti-’Possum” wherever we may be.

John Newton, who wrote the hymn "Amazing Grace," believed that we can be in "service to God" fully performing that duty while in politics. We can be a minister of God [not clergy in the proper sense, but like Joseph in Egypt, King Josiah, or Queen Esther], while being a political activist or elected to office.

Wilberforce was not perfect, he had a dramatic conversion after a life of sins.

We have John Newton to thank for influencing William Wilberforce to keep fighting in politics. Newton cleared up Wilberforce's doubts and corrected his misconception that "service to God" excluded political activism, public office, or the political world. We forget all the hardship, rejection, and failure along with the ridicule and miserable health Wilberforce endured. We forget that he almost gave up on politics, and would have quit politics because of the frustrations of evil men, if not for Newton.

Wilberforce’s Slave Trade Act to abolish the slave trade was defeated 11 times before it passed in 1807 after 20 years of toil. Soon after in 1816, Wilberforce realized his naïveté and repented his approach and fought for complete abolition of slavery in the empire. He then spent another near 26 years fighting to completely abolish slavery.

Without John Newton, there is likely not the William Wilberforce being the great political force for God's principles and Justice, because no one else in the English empire would have outlawed slavery and improved morals legislatively. Without Wilberforce there is not the same Abraham Lincoln we know.

Without Wilberforce's strategic experience, example, and inspiration to Abraham Lincoln and American abolitionists, slavery would likely still be with us.
My point, in this article, is that any one person who resists being a “‘Possum” can have a dramatic impact on our culture.

You may never know what one of your words or one of your actions done for God can do to change one person, but doing that one single act can change history, so do it well.

We are servants of God and His ministers to the political and civil world as we fight Obama. Conversely, we are not His servants if we do not truly fight to cause Obama's defeat.

We too, like Wilberforce or Athanasius, can be victorious over evil policy and the wicked in this 2012 election.

We can have a profound effect on this coming election by hurting Obama’s vote as much as 8% in swing states with Pro-Life ads that show murdered babies and say a vote for Obama is a vote for black genocide.

This is no time to “‘possum-out!” The candidates below need your help! Terry has already and all of them will have a real effect on this election for good. Our goal in this election is simple; ‘cause Obama’s defeat!’

Do not buy into gimmicks this election, do not be scammed, voter-guides are a waste of time and money. This is not the time for half-hearted or half-witted attempts. Say the truth boldly and clearly with these candidates below. And fight, FIGHT!, I say, like it is your own neck on the block, because it likely will be if we fail.
