  • Why is the Pro-life Movement Failing?

Members of the Society for Truth and Justice and volunteers for Randall Terry for President recently went to an event in Northern Kentucky called "Cross the Bridge for Life." This event is sort of like the March for Life, there are speakers, then everyone marches, then the event is over. We went with the intention of gathering signatures from pro-lifers to get a pro-lifer (Randall Terry) on the ballot.

Myself and Gary Boisclair were kicked out of the event (which was on public property) for gathering signatures. Here is the content of the discussion with the "pro-life" lady that kicked us out as close to verbatim as I can print:

Cross the Bridge for Life Lady: You are not allowed to collect signatures here, didn't I tell you that last year?

David: I was in attendence last year, but I was not collecting signatures, that must have been somebody else.

Cross the Bridge for Life Lady:
Well...if you continue to collect signatures, I am going to have to ask you to leave.

    David:
I am collecting signatures for a pro-lifer to get on the ballot; the only way that we can defeat child-killing in this country is by electing pro-lifers to office. It is counter-productive for you to kick me out of a pro-life event for taking part in pro-life activites.

Cross the Bridge for Life Lady: We do not want this event to be political, it drives people away and we want to have just as many people come back next year. You will have to leave if you keep collecting signatures.

David: This is precisely why there have been no public policy victories for Christians in decades. I am guessing that you just hate Randall Terry right?

Cross the Bridge for Life Lady: I know Randall Terry, and I like him, we just want to keep politics out of this.

David: I will stand on the adjacient sidewalk and collect there I guess.

Cross the Bridge for Life Lady: Thanks, you can come back after the march and collect signatures.
If you have ever been to a Tea Party event, there are candidates talking to people, people distributing petitions, political literature is distributed, and candidates are endorsed. At Cross the Bridge for Life Obama and Romney were not even mentioned. How can the pro-life movement prevail if we cannot even point out that Obama is a child-killer?

    God have mercy on us,

Cross the Bridge....without the Cross of Christ. It was a mere FOOT BRIDGE! So hardly any streets were blocked. It's as if the organizers were looking for ways to pretend to be public, while doing things which amount to a mere private party. This event fails to spur people to heroism.... The evil doer, Obama, was not even mentioned, so what need is there for heroic actions on the part of the participants? One good thing did happen there though: hundreds signed our petition to help get Randall Terry on the ballot, in order to expose Obama, and to have Ohio swing away from him. True pro-life action will require that we pick up the painful Cross of Christ. Cross the bridge...oh if only it were that easy.
